Whether I am studying or agonizing or 3am, this is my go-to tracklist for bringing focus to my chaotic mind.
As this is my final exam week, what I need is a playlist to pump me up and get me through the last stretch of the semester. Biology and Chemistry exams plus a few last minutes papers, I’m going to need all the motivation I can get to finish strong. I hope this playlist inspires all of you too.
If this is also your finals week, May the odds be ever in your favour.

Can I just marry Lauren Mayberry?
The Scottish lead singer of indie synth-pop sensation CHVRCHES is an embodiment of what I find attractive in women. While being quite physically attractive, behind her own set of dead eyes she is also incredibly funny with her snarky sense of humor. Lastly, her voice is beyond godly, making the already awesome synth sound even better.
Now that I’m over my gushing for a few moments, I wanna give a little context to the band. Formed in 2011, after Iain Cook (synthesizers, guitar, bass , vocals) asked Lauren Mayberry (lead vocals, synthesizers, samplers) to help do vocals for one of his previous bands. After many months recording vocals, Mayberry was asked to form a new band with Cook and his college friend Martin Doherty (synthesizers, samplers, vocals), thus creating one of my favorite bands of all time, CHVRCHES
When looking at my personal experience with the band, it all began with The Mother We Share being played all through my junior of high school. That same year I went to my first concert and again heard Lauren’s angelic voice playing through the speakers before the real acts took the stage. In the following year I grew to love the entire Bones of What You Believe album and in 2015 I was ecstatic to hear more new music coming from the trio. Although I missed a chance to listen to them live on a boat, seeing them in concert is definitely still on the bucket list.
If you ever need some music that any of your friends will enjoy at a party, I highly recommend plugging in the speaker (or pairing with Bluetooth if you like killing your battery) and picking one of these lovely albums to jam out to.
On this episode of “A weirdo with a camera”, we observe a man struggling to come to term with his addiction, anime!
“Not so long ago, in the mysterious land of Toronto, Canada, Scott Pilgrim was dating a high schooler” *Cue the Link to the Past Music*
If you would have entered my room any time during my high school career, you would have, without a doubt, found Scott Pilgrim vs the World in my DVD player. A melting pot of garage-band music, retro video games, and (dare I admit it) hipsters, the movie was everything I could have dreamed of and more. My obsession with the franchise was to the point where I would watch the film not once, but up to three times a night at the low point of my addiction. Even with the unhealthy habit of binge watching a DVD I found on sale at a Wal-Mart, it got me through some the worst points in my life, and for that I will be forever greatful to Brian Lee O’Malley (author of the original graphic novels)
Although I first encountered the dorky Canadian through the media of film, the story was originally expressed as a graphic novel series (I warn you to make the distinction of the books being graphic novels instead of comics). Continue reading “12.09.16 [Fandom Friday] – Scott Pilgrim vs the World”
Yes, you read the title right, I am the Muffin Man (at least in the sense that I am a man known for making muffins). Growing up, having muffins for breakfast was common, often once a week or more. The simplicity of making Pillsbury chocolate chip and blueberry muffins made them perfect for feeding the bottomless void of my adolescent stomach. Between the two flavors I never had much of a preference until I found cinnamon streusel.
A match made in heaven, I found the ambrosia to feast upon with my morning nectar of the gods (coffee, hold the sugar, hold the milk, hold everything. Its straight black). However, I was unable to satisfy my cravings some weekends as no one was willing to make me muffins. My compromise, learn to do it myself, started me on my path toward independence at a young age.
Admittedly, I wasn’t the best at baking initially. Not mixing all the dry ingredients equally through the liquid ones led to lumps developing and gross patches of powder in the muffins once baked. I persevered though, and eventually I got pretty good at making not just one batch of muffins, but 2-3 at a time.
Once I got into high school the supplying of baked goods for party days in class became the perfect stage to perform my culinary art. I almost always made muffins for these parties, regardless of when they occurred. The real benefit to choosing muffins was once they were baked in the morning, I could just snack on them through the day. I was a benevolent lord of baked goods and would provide for my acolytes.
My consistency in bringing muffins to every event, along with the high quality of production, led to an expectation that I would ALWAYS bring muffins. To this day, that mostly holds true. I have on occasion instead brought a griddle and made pancakes for the most loyal of my subjects, but that is a story for another day.
Additionally, I plan on giving out my Playlist for the Week.
PotW will follow a simple format of being 7 songs from seven different artists, thus giving my readers a song to binge-listen to each day of the week. I may make a theme for the week but the songs are all going to be based on my mood for the week.
This week, due to it being the first week where snow has actually stuck to the ground here in Wisconsin, I will be making a playlist of songs to chill out to.
12.05.16 Playlist – Chill Out Edition
- Circadian Rhythm – Silversun Pickups
